The TRANS series of industrial grade antifoams are water based, silicone emulsions (as polydimethylsiloxane) designed to control foam in a variety of aqueous industrial applications. The functional properties developed especially for the TRANS series of antifoams to eliminate and prevent excessive foam include

  • Quick dispersibility
  • Slight insolubility
  • Relative stability
  • A high degree of spreadability in the foaming system

The primary active ingredient is polydimethylsiloxane, an inert silicone polymer. Industrial-grade TRANS antifoam emulsions utilize only nonionic emulsifiers and do not contain reportable levels of any hazardous components. Therefore, when used properly, TRANS antifoams are considered a relatively safe class of chemical additives.

TRANS-290 Specialty Silicone Antifoam

TRANS-290 is broad spectrum antifoam that is effective in a variety of applications. This antifoam excels in evaporative wastewater treatment and numerous types of detergent foam. It is particularly effective in the agriculture industry to control foam in herbicides and spray adjuvants. TRANS-290 is also found utility in chemical manufacturing, water treatment, industrial process water, and some types of cleaning products and coating formulations.

TRANS-290 antifoam is a water based emulsion containing a complex mixture of silicones and non-silicone active ingredients. This combination provides rapid and aggressive foam destruction and persistent foam suppression in many types of foaming media. TRANS-290 is readily dispersible in water with gentle mixing and is generally more rinsable than conventional silicone antifoam products.

TRANS-290 is suitable for the manufacture of paper and paperboard per 21 CFR 176.170, 176.180, and 176.210.

TRANS-290X is suitable for pre-harvest agricultural applications and exempt from a tolerance per 40 CFR 180.920.

TRANS-2977

TRANS-2977 is an industrial grade antifoam emulsion containing approximately 65% active defoaming ingredients, which are mostly silicones. In conjunction with the special, non-silicone defoaming agents present in the formulation, this high level of silicone was specifically designed to deliver outstanding foam combative performance in difficult industrial situations including coatings, wastewater applications and chemical manufacturing.

The functional properties developed especially for TRANS-2977 to eliminate and prevent excessive foam include quick dispersibility and a high degree of spreadability in the foaming system. TRANS-2977 also finds utility in destroying anionic foam associated with cleaning products and their manufacture, is highly rinseable, and is a suitable antifoam for the manufacture of food-grade paper and paperboard per 21 CFR 176.170, 176.180, and 176.210.

TRANS-245

TRANS-245 is a water based, biodegradable, non-silicone defoaming blend developed to prevent excessive foaming in clean in place systems and auto dishwashing applications. It is alkali soluble, stable, possesses mild detergency and performs in high temperature and protein soil conditions such as whey evaporators. TRANS-245 is effective within the food industry where direct and indirect food contact is not expected to occur.

Controlling Foam
To control foam, TRANS-245 defoamer is normally added directly to the foaming product or process. A good starting point is 0.2 to 0.5% by weight in an aqueous system. For example, a standard recommendation is 3 oz. of TRANS-245 for each 10 gallons of liquid caustic soda. TRANS-245 will cloud when exposed to slightly elevated temperatures. This reversible phenomenon is normal, and is the mechanism by which TRANS-245 derives its efficacy within high temperature cleaning systems. TRANS-245 performs best in alkaline processes operating at temperatures above 90° F (32 °C). As with any antifoam or defoamer, thorough testing should always be conducted to determine the suitability and compatibility of the antifoam with the foaming system and processing equipment.

TRANS-700 Series

This series of predominantly non-aqueous, oil based, silicone free defoamers was designed for foam control in coatings, adhesives, wastewater and chemical manufacturing.

Application and Usage Guidelines
To control foam, the recommended method of application is to add the TRANS-700 series of defoamers directly to the foaming product or process. Each foaming problem is unique and requires different treatment levels of defoamer, therefore use only the minimum amount of defoamer required. Trial testing will be necessary to optimize the amount of defoamer used in a given process. As with any antifoam or defoamer, thorough testing should always be conducted to determine the suitability and compatibility of the defoamer with the foaming system and processing equipment.
