TRANS-1030, TRANS-5, TRANS-10, TRANS-20, & TRANS-30

These TRANS series of antifoams are food-grade, water-based, silicone emulsions (as polydimethylsiloxane) designed to control foam in most aqueous systems. The functional properties developed especially for our TRANS products to eliminate and prevent excessive foam include:

  • Quick dispersibility
  • Slight insolubility
  • Relative stability
  • A high degree of spreadability in the foaming system

The active ingredient, polydimethylsiloxane, is an inert polymer with the following structure:

These particular TRANS antifoam products utilize only food-grade, nonionic emulsifiers and contain only ingredients that are recognized by qualified experts as safe in food products, according to the Code of Federal Regulations, Title 21, Part 173.340. They may, therefore, be used as direct food additives in most foods at levels anywhere from 33 to 333 parts per million (mg/L) depending on the product.

As processing aids, these TRANS products are considered 'secondary direct food additives' and impart no flavor, odor, or functional attributes to the food. Please consult the Code of Federal Regulations for further clarification on antifoam usage in your particular foodstuff.

In addition, these antifoams are widely used in many non-food-grade industrial applications.

TRANS-4062

TRANS-4062 is a proprietary, water-based, non-silicone*, kosher certified antifoam emulsion. It is used in various food grade applications including the beverage industry and dairy production where it is effective at controlling foam during nonfat dry milk reconstitution, in cultured cheese production, and in whey processing. TRANS-4062 also demonstrates effective foam control in numerous industrial-grade applications.

TRANS-4062 is considered a secondary direct food additive according to the Code of Federal Regulations, Title 21, and is compliant with 21 CFR 173.340(a)(2). TRANS-4062 contains a tiny amount of silicone (0.4%), and for this reason, its maximum usage limit is 2500 ppm in most food products. TRANS-4062 also meets other FDA regulations.

*Although marketed as a “non-silicone” antifoam, a tiny amount of silicone (0.4%) is present in the TRANS-4062. If this minuscule amount of silicone is undesirable in your process, please contact Trans-Chemco for expressly “silicone-free” antifoam options.

TRANS-400

TRANS-400 is a 100% active, food-grade, kosher defoamer designed to destroy foam in aqueous environments, especially those food manufacturing, fermentation, agricultural and industrial-grade processes where the presence of silicone is not desired or cannot be tolerated. TRANS-400 contains no silicone and no mineral oils.

TRANS-400 contains only ingredients that are recognized by qualified experts as safe in food products, according to the Code of Federal Regulations, Title 21, part 173.340. Because of its GRAS status, it may be used safely as a direct food additive in an amount not to exceed what is reasonably required to inhibit foaming in most food applications. When used in sufficient but not excessive quantities, TRANS-400 should not alter the taste or odor of food products.

TRANS-227

TRANS-227 is a water-based, non-silicone antifoam emulsion designed to control foam in aqueous systems where the presence of silicone is not desired or is otherwise ineffective. TRANS-227 finds utility in a multitude of applications ranging from fuel ethanol production to food processing, and from wastewater to metal finishing. It is also an excellent antifoam for the suppression of foam within many oil-in-water emulsions, and is suitable for direct food applications such as wash water for sliced potatoes, and for the processing of beet sugar and yeast.

TRANS-227 utilizes a fine grade of white mineral oil conforming to 21 CFR 172.878, as well as nonionic emulsifiers and ingredients that are recognized by qualified experts as safe in food products. As a food processing aid, TRANS-227 is considered a “secondary direct food additive” and imparts no flavor, odor, or functional attributes to the food. With limitation, TRANS-227 may be safely used for those specific food-grade applications permitted in the Code of Federal Regulations, Title 21, as shown in the table below.

TRANS-227 may also be used as an indirect food additive for the manufacture of articles or components of articles intended for use in producing, manufacturing, packing, processing, preparing, treating, packaging, transporting, or holding food and is approved for the manufacture of paper and paperboard per 21 CFR 176.170, 176.180, and 176.210. Please consult the Code of Federal Regulations for further clarification on antifoam usage in your particular food-grade application.

TRANS-FG2

TRANS-FG2 is a water-based, non-silicone, food-grade emulsion designed to control foam in aqueous food-canning processes where the presence of silicone is not desired or cannot be tolerated. TRANS-FG2 disperses readily when added to an aqueous system, yet possesses slight insolubility to control excessive foam. When used in sufficient but not excessive quantities, TRANS-FG2 should in no way alter the taste of food products.

TRANS-280

TRANS-280 is a non-aqueous, silicone-free defoamer utilizing defoaming polymers and biodegradable oils to deliver outstanding foam-combative performance in many different applications, including both water-based and oil-based systems. TRANS-280 features specially developed properties, including very quick dispersibility in aqueous media and a high degree of spreadability in the foaming system. TRANS-280 contains only ingredients that are recognized by qualified experts as safe in food products, according to the Code of Federal Regulations, Title 21, Part 173.340, and may therefore be safely used as a direct food additive limited to the processing of beet sugar and yeast.

TRANS-280 possesses good stability and long lasting efficacy in oil based hydraulic and metalworking fluids, performs well in fermentation systems, is useful in industrial wastewater applications, and functions as a more-highly water-dispersible alternative for systems reliant upon traditional block copolymer/polyol defoamers.
